Ronald Joseph Arculli

Hong Kong solicitor and long-serving former independent non-executive director of Hang Lung, who retired at the 2021 annual general meeting under the board's age limit and agreed to serve as adviser to the chairman for two years.

Background

Ronald Joseph Arculli was born and raised in Hong Kong and trained as a barrister in the United Kingdom. After practising in Hong Kong for several years, he moved to a commercial organisation to take up a senior management role, later became a solicitor, and was a partner in one of the largest local law firms. According to the letter to shareholders issued by Hang Lung chairman Ronnie C. Chan on January 28, 2021, Ronald Joseph Arculli combines legal expertise with business acumen and is regarded as one of Hong Kong’s wisest business talents.

Ronald Joseph Arculli served on Hang Lung’s board for a long time. In the letter, Ronnie C. Chan recalled that Ronald Joseph Arculli joined the board as a non-executive director a few months before Chan became an executive director in 1980, and was therefore at that time the only non-executive director who had worked with all three chairmen and all six chief executives (formerly called managing directors) since Hang Lung’s founding sixty years earlier; he and Ronnie C. Chan were also the only two directors who had worked directly with Hang Lung’s founder Chan Tseng-hsi.

Hang Lung’s board had set an age limit for directors many years earlier, and Ronald Joseph Arculli therefore retired at the annual general meeting held in April 2021, stepping down as an independent non-executive director. In the letter, Ronnie C. Chan thanked him for his guidance to the company over the years and said that Ronald Joseph Arculli had agreed to serve as an adviser to the chairman for two years.
