Greenland Holdings Corporation Limited is a Shanghai-based real estate developer whose core business is property, and Zhang Yuliang has long served as its chairman. According to a Caixin report in July 2014, Greenland Holdings had grown faster in recent years and was regarded as the biggest competitor capable of dislodging Vanke from its position as the industry’s number one; Zhang Yuliang had earlier said in an interview that overtaking the industry leader was “just a matter of one or two projects.”

According to first-half 2014 sales data for property developers compiled by CRIC, Greenland ranked second with sales of 83 billion yuan, behind only Vanke’s 101.8 billion yuan and ahead of Evergrande’s 71.4 billion yuan.
